Irrigation projects: CM holds videoconference with officials

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday interacted with the Collectors of all the 30 districts about the implementation of the government’s decision to ensure digging of one pond each in all the revenue villages across the State.

Talking to the District Collectors through video conferencing, Mr. Patnaik the programme was aimed at adding to the existing irrigation cover in the State. The Chief Minister said that in hilly regions where it would not be possible to create ponds measures should be taken to establish water harvesting structures for the benefit of the farmers.

Mr. Patnaik advised the District Collectors to monitor implementation of the programme on a day-to-day basis in view of the irrigation potential of the ponds in the respective villages.

He emphasised the need for according priority to the KBK region and other tribal-dominated areas under the scheme so that people could get work in their own villages.

The Chief Minister also underlined the need for effective implementation of the programme aimed at extending help for those suffering from critical ailments in the rural areas. Money for the purpose would be released from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He also stressed the need for conducting regular session for redressal of people’s grievances.
