Journalists arrested for staging demonstration

Correspondent

CHAMARAJANAGAR: The police arrested 21 journalists for staging a demonstration at the venue of an election rally addressed by Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani here on Friday. The journalists were protesting against the police for not allowing them to go near the stage to videograph the programme.

As soon as the programme started television journalists urged the police to allow them to go near the stage. Superintendent of Police Sridhar cited security reasons and denied permission to the journalist.

The journalist shouted slogans against the police. Later, alternative arrangement was made near the stage for the journalists.

However, they rejected it and staged a demonstration. The police arrested the journalists for staging the demonstration and obstructing the movement of Mr. Advani’s vehicle and security personnel.

However, they were released on bail later.
