One dies in stampede

MACHERLA (Guntur District): A resident of Veldurthi mandal Gutthikonda Brahma Reddy (40) died in a stampede when a large section of crowd tried to go closer to Telugu Desam Party president Nara Chandrababu Naidu here on Friday night.

The TDP president arrived here from Durgi at 7.45 p.m.

As soon as Mr. Naidu’s convoy arrived at the venue, people tried to go closer to the dais resulting in a stampede.

The TDP leader has announced compensation of Rs.2 lakhs for the kin of the deceased party worker.
