Public grievance cell, a success

M. Balaganessin

Resolves 235 petitions out of the 308

PUDUKOTTAI: The public grievance cell functioning at the District Police Office here has been receiving an overwhelming response with a number of aggrieved people seeking and getting remedy through a time bound action plan being implemented.

The cell which was inaugurated on March 5 has so far registered 308 petitions of which 235 have been resolved.

Each petition is being assigned a star status depending upon the gravity of the grievances in the petition, the Superintendent of Police, P. Moorthy told ‘The Hindu’ here on Friday.

‘One star,’ ‘two star’ and ‘three star’ petitions are resolved within 15 days, seven days and three days respectively.

He said that petition received directly at the Office of the Superintendent of Police is assigned three star status; petitioner not satisfied with the action at the divisional level and seeking SP’s assistance is labelled to two star status; petitioner who sought remedy at the police station and later at the divisional office and seeking the cell’s assistance is assigned one star status.

He said that a perfect monitoring mechanism is being kept on the follow up of action by forwarding the petition to the concerned Deputy Superintendent of Police, station officer or the reception unit of the forty stations in the district.

“The online monitoring facility is also best utilised to take up a review of the action,” he said.

Explaining the objective of the cell, Mr. Moorthy said that the accountability of petitions increased, through a time-bound response and online review.

The issue of acknowledgement to every petitioner, a process introduced for the first time, at DPO infuses a sense of confidence among the members of the public.

Petitioners need not revisit the cell for ascertaining the action.

They can contact over phone the same by dialling 04322-265265.

The cell also entertained petitions pertaining to the grievances of police personnel, he added.

It was computerised on April 18 in the presence of the ADGP K. Vijaykumar.
