Appeal to Left parties

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: MDMK General Secretary Vaiko on Friday urged the Left parties to tell the Congress that they would never support it in the future if the UPA government went ahead with operationalising the Indo-US Nuclear deal.

“You have succeeded in preventing the government so far from going ahead. But the government could go ahead with its plan just before the elections and demit office. So you must make it clear to the Congress about your stand right now,” he said while releasing 123 Indiavey Oodathey Nil, a book arguing against the Nuclear deal. The book was authored by the party’s headquarters secretary K.S. Radhakrishnan.

Mr Vaiko said the message of the Left should be so strong that “whoever is elected to office will not think about pledging the sovereignty of the country by signing the deal.” CPI leader R Nallakannu said the US was keen on signing the deal because it knew that India was the biggest market in the world. Journalist Maalan, MDMK propaganda secretary Nanjil Sampath, documentary film director Bharathi Krishnakumar and poet Vennila spoke.
