PUDUCHERRY: Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning V. Narayanasamy on Friday endorsed the decision of Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to refer cases of “disorderly behaviour” of 32 MPs of different political parties to the Committee of Privileges. Replying to queries at a press conference here on Mr. Chatterjee’s stand on the issue to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament, he said it was wrong on the part of the MPs to have indulged in acts such as trooping into the well of the House, raising slogans and attempting to stall the proceedings. Members belonging to different political parties could put forth their views within the ambit of the rules and procedures of Parliament, Mr. Narayanasamy said. There were plenty of opportunities such as question hour, zero hour, calling attention, short duration, bills, half-an-hour discussion, private member’s bill and private member’s resolution before the MPs to highlight issues of public interest, he pointed out. Attempts to stall the proceedings also infringed upon the rights of other members to raise genuine issues, he said.
