IPL to look into Engineer’s comments

Jaipur: The IPL may take action against Match Referee Farokh Engineer for suggesting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) needed to be lenient on Harbhajan Singh and for making comments on S. Sreesanth.

After banning Harbhajan Singh from 10 IPL matches, Engineer had told the media in New Delhi that he had been punished enough.

“I am sure the BCCI will realise that Harbhajan’s punishment has been pretty harsh and I hope for him that they are lenient on him. But I can’t really comment on what the BCCI has to do,” Engineer had told the media.

On being told that a local newspaper had run a picture of Engineer (Match Referee here on Thursday) wearing Rajasthan Royals colours and celebrating the team’s victory, Mr. Lalit Modi, Chairman & Commissioner, IPL, said: “I will talk to Farokh Engineer to set the record straight.” — Special Correspondent
