Four-member gang of criminals arrested

Thiruvananthapuram: The police arrested a four-member gang in connection with a series of attempted murders, chain snatchings and motorbike thefts in the district.

The suspects are “Pokkam” Saju, Aneesh, Rajkumar and Balakrishnan. Circle Inspector, Peroorkada, M. Radhakrishnan Nair said the suspects were responsible for the attempt on the life of Santhosh, a doctor who owns a clinic in Venjaranmoodu.

He said the suspects had taken money to kill Santosh from the husband of a nurse employed at the clinic. The husband suspected the doctor of having an adulterous relationship with his wife.

He said the suspects had taken money from a business rival for killing Anil Kumar, a news agent based in Plamoodu.

The gang had mortally injured Anil Kumar by ramming the motorbike he was riding with a car.

The same gang had cut down the owner and employees of a welding unit at Kudappanakunnu for failing to pay them protection money.

The police recovered three stolen motorbikes and two Gurkha-style “Kukri” knives on the basis of confessions of the suspects.

The police are looking for a 20-year-old girl student who has been associated with the gang for the past several months.

The CI said the girl had helped the gangsters, by posing as a sex worker, extort money from several un-suspecting businessmen.

The gangsters are known to have close links with criminals in Kanjirampara, Aruvikkara, Vattappara and Chenthilode colonies in the city.
