ALAPPUZHA: P.N. Pramod Narayanan, the former Bharanikavu block panchayat president and CPI (M) Palamel North local committee member who created a flutter in local political circles when he spoke against Cooperation and Coir Minister G. Sudhakaran and resigned from the party, has joined the Congress. Mr. Narayanan announced his decision to work with the Congress at a press conference at the District Congress Committee office here on Saturday. Lacks democracyAlleging that the CPI(M) no longer followed the principles of internal democracy, Mr. Narayanan said he could not continue as a member of the CPI(M) because the party did not take into account his version before suspending him for speaking against the Minister publicly. Shukoor, who welcomed Mr. Narayanan into the Congress fold, said it was not just Mr. Narayanan but several other individuals and whole families that had owed allegiance to the CPI(M) in Mavelikara for years together who had expressed desire to join the Congress due to the “internal unrest” in the CPI(M). Mr. Narayanan, who had worked in several positions including with the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), was one among several such youngsters who were joining the Congress “in multitudes” from the CPI(M) from areas like Mavelikara, Thakazhi, Nooranad and other areas in the district, Mr. Shukoor added.
