FCI assures of quality foodgrains

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Food Corporation of India on Saturday dismissed allegations that it was supplying sub-standard wheat to consumers in the Capital.

Addressing a press conference, FCI General Manager (Delhi Region) Asit Singh said: “We want to place on record that our role is limited to supplying good quality foodgrains to the Delhi Government after obtaining acceptance of quality and quantity certificate in each and every case from representatives of the administration.”

Samples sealed

Mr. Singh asserted that in respect of each and every truck of foodgrains issued, the samples are jointly drawn and sealed under the joint signatures of FCI and State Government representatives. “Such sealed samples are maintained for 90 days from the date of issue in the FCI office, Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation’s office and that particular ration shop so that it can be analysed in government laboratories in case of any complaint. Once the trucks move out of the FCI gate after completion of these formalities, it is the sole responsibility of the State Government to ensure that the foodgrains reach the ration shops,” he added.

The FCI official said a number of sting operations conducted by the Delhi Government had clearly shown that foodgrains either do not reach ration shops at all or the good quality foodgrains loaded by FCI are replaced by inferior quality stocks.
