Northern Railway cracks down on touts
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: To check the menace of touts and unauthorised agents functioning at railway stations, reservation centres and parcel offices, Northern Railway has been conducting raids in recent days.
During checks conducted by the Anti-Fraud Squad of the Northern Railway in March/April, 13 touts were caught at passenger reservation centres and parcel offices of Northern Railway.
Appeal to passengers
Raids were also conducted on unauthorised travel agencies and 43 cancelled tickets were seized. All 13 touts and unauthorised agents were handed over to the Railway Protection Force for prosecution under Section 143/179 of the Indian Railway Act, 1989.
The Northern Railway has appealed to passengers to buy tickets only from railway counters or authorised railway travel service agents. Passengers found travelling on transferred tickets would be liable for prosecution under the Indian Railway Act.
