BPCL triumphs

PERINTHALMANNA: BPCL Kochin Refineries Ltd defeated Muthoot ECC by three wickets to win the Dr. M.S. Nair memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament at the KCA stadium here on Saturday.

KRL bowlers exploited the overcast conditions to bundle out Muthoot ECC for 122 runs. Apart from Mazhar Moidu (34) none of the ECC batsmen prospered under difficult conditions. For KRL, Aneesh, Prasanth Parameshwaran, Vishnu Sundar and Arun Alex took two wickets each.

KRL wobbled briefly in its chase when it lost early wickets. But K.J. Rakesh made a crucial half-century (64 not out) to steer his team to victory.

Special awards: Promising Youngster: M.S. Akhil (Cordiant TCC); Best Batsman: K.J. Rakesh (BPCL KRL); Best bowler: Anandakuttan (Muthoot ECC); Best all-rounder: Jiju Janardhanan (Muthoot ECC); Best fielder: Fazhil Mohammed (BPCL KRL); Best wicket keeper: Vineeth Viswanathan (BPCL KRL).

The scores:

Muthoot ECC, Ernakulam 122 in 38.1 overs (Mazhar Moidu 34) lost to BPCL KRL 124 for seven in 37.3 overs (K.J. Rakesh 64 n.o.).
