BANGALORE: The match between Royal Challengers and Deccan Chargers suffered a six-minute interruption caused by a shut down of lights on the Western Tower (adjacent to the B Ground) here on Saturday. The situation was quickly resolved and the lights made operational. Shortage of bulbs
However, KSCA could be on the road to disaster if urgent action is not taken. Apparently KSCA has only about 500 replacement bulbs left and the company that used to supply the replacements (MUSCO-Dev) has shut down operations. According to a source in the KSCA, at least 10 bulbs blow out every time the lights are switched on. This means by the end of the IPL schedule of matches in Bangalore, KSCA would be left with less than 150 replacement bulbs. Apparently at a recent committee meeting to address the issue one of the committee members suggested that the contract be handed over to the person who arranges the lighting at the Palace Ground rather than approach foreign manufacturers of the bulbs. Divided on issueThe committee seems divided on this issue at present. Luckily in the match between Royal Challengers and Deccan Chargers, the lights were switched back on quickly. One shudders to thinks what could have happened if the entire lights on the Western Grid were forced to be replaced.
