Subash Guttedar and Veeranna Mangani arrested Total number of nominations submitted in Gulbarga is 234 candidates and in Bijapur 77 candidates filed their papers GULBARGA: As many as 221 candidates filed their nomination papers on Saturday, the last day for filing nominations in Gulbarga and Bijapur districts. In Gulbarga, 144 candidates and in Bijapur 77 candidates filed their papers. Prominent among those who filed their papers in Gulbarga are the former Minister Baburao Chavan, Sunil Valyapur from Chincholi as Congress and BJP candidates, respectively; S.K. Kanta as a JD(S) candidate from Gulbarga South; and the former legislator Vittal Herur as a BJP candidate from Gurmitkal. Official sources said that 234 candidates had filed their papers for 13 seats in Gulbarga district and 176 candidates filed their papers in Bijapur district. Meanwhile, the election authorities continued their crackdown on the candidates for violation of the model code of conduct. Subash Guttedar and Veeranna Mangani, who are contesting on JD (S) and BSP ticket in Aland, were arrested and released on bail at Madanahipparga and Nimbarga in Aland taluk in connection with violation of the model code of conduct. The police have registered a case against Jewargi BJP candidate Doddappagowda Patil Naribol for conducting a party convention without prior permission from the authorities on the outskirts of Jewargi. A case has been registered against the former MLA Chandrashekar Patil Revoor for distributing caps with his party symbol while filing nomination papers for Gulbarga South. The police seized four vehicles of BJP candidate for Gurumitkal Vittal Herur for using them without obtaining permission. The police seized three vehicles of JD (S) candidate Srinivas Reddy for Yadgir.
