VIZIANAGARAM: Welcoming the Supreme Court judgment on 27 per cent reservations for OBCs in Central educational institutions, member of the AP Commission for Backward Classes V. Krishna Mohan Rao suggested that the Government recommend increase in income limit for ‘creamy layer’ category as BCs are still lagging behind in many areas. At a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Mohan Rao said that the Commission had engaged Indian Institute of Economics to conduct a survey of ‘Kapu’ community in the State for its inclusion in the list of BCs. He said a few minor irritants over issuing certificates in other districts to ‘Toorpu Kapus’ who are considered BCs in this part of the State would be removed shortly. He said that a notification for listing 36 castes in BCs was issued and conducted a survey in 2005. Accordingly, it recommended some of the castes including ‘Koorakula’, Ayyarakula, Sishta Karanams etc for inclusion in the list of BCs. K.
