Consecration of Balaji temple in July

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Consecration of Sri Venkateswara Mandir, better known as Tirupati Balaji Temple, in Sector 3 of R. K. Puram here will be performed in July after completion of renovation work undertaken by the Venkateswara Mandir Society.

Special poojas including Balalayam (preliminary rituals connected with consecration) were performed to mark the beginning of the work to be carried out by the temple sculptural experts known as Sthapathis. To facilitate renovation work, all the Utsava murthis have been shifted and regular worship is being carried on for these murthis.

According to Mr. Vijayaraghavan, who heads the renovation committee, the temple established in 1979 strictly follows the Pancharatra agama in conducting the rituals. The Rajagopuram was constructed in 1992 along with a new sannidhi of Sri Lakshmi Varahar. Besides the main deity Lord Srinivasa, there are sannidhis for Sri Mahalakshmi, Sri Andal, Sri Hanuman, Azhvars and Acharyas besides Sri Sudarsana.

The temple observes several festivals.
