PT leader’s contention shocks CPI (M)

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: CPI(M) state secretary N. Varadharajan on Saturday said that he was shocked by Puthiya Tamizhagam leader K. Krishnasamy’s contention that removal of the 600-metre wall separating the Dalits and the caste Hindus at Uthapuram in Madurai would trigger caste-clashes in southern districts and lead to permanent alienation of Dalits.

“The CPI(M) has no political motives. The party wants the removal of the wall and peaceful co-existence between both the communities,” Mr. Varadharajan said in a statement. “It is unjustifiable that Dr. Krishnasamy, who has been maintaining silence all these days, has attributed motives to the CPI(M)’s effort to remove the wall.” Mr. Varadharajan said the CPI(M) was seeking the intervention of the State government and the district administration to remove the wall. “It is our stand. People will support our struggle.”
