HYDERABAD: After initiating steps to reduce the delay in obtaining gas cylinders for domestic consumers, the Civil Supplies department has now decided to concentrate on the utilisation pattern of commercial consumers of LPG. The department will monitor the pattern to check whether there are mismatches, if any, in the off-take and the scale of operations of the commercial consumers. “This will allow us to check whether the commercial consumers are using the gas allotted to them or whether cylinders meant for domestic purposes are being diverted,” Civil Supplies Commissioner Poonam Malakondaiah said. Ms. Malakondaiah told reporters here on Saturday that the department had asked the Transport authorities to enact a legislation to usher in a mechanism where licence could be issued to those engaged in gas refill. “All the auto gas refill units functioning across the State are not licensed under any law as there is no provision so far,” he said. Form FThe department would also monitor the movement of vehicles transporting more than seven cylinders as they should obtain license by applying in form F under the Explosives Act for ensuring that safety conditions were complied with in transporting the gas that was an explosive substance. “We cannot allow vehicles carrying more than the stipulated number of cylinders,” she said. On the domestic LPG cylinders, she said the gas companies had been asked to mention the number of cylinder in the bill dispatched to consumers and the consumers would, in turn, be educated on getting the number entered in the blue book given to them. “Entering the number of the cylinder in the blue book reduces the scope for diversion,” she added.
