Thanjavur wins football title

Madurai: A goal off a spot kick by Arunkumar in extra-time helped Thanjavur Medical College clinch the football title by defeating Stanley Medical College, Chennai, 3-2 in the final of the State-inter medical games meet here on Saturday.

Ravi Rangan scored both the goals for Stanely Medical College while Kandasamy scored both the goals for Thanjavur College.

Other results (all-finals): Men: Badminton: Madurai MC bt KAPV MC, Trichy 2-0. Table tennis: Tirunelveli MC bt Madurai MC 2-0.

Women: Badminton: Thanjavur MC bt Madurai MC 3-1. Table tennis: Madurai MC bt Thanjavur MC 2-0. Mixed Doubles: Madurai MC bt Thanjavur MC 11-9, 11-8, 11-5.
Easy for Ismail FC

Ismail FC beat Olympian FC 4-1 in the Madurai DFA ‘C’ division league at Madurai on Saturday.

Karikalan shines

A brilliant 92 by G. Karikalan helped Vignesh Sports Club defeat Sri Vasantha Sweets Cricket Club by 101 runs in the Canara Bank-Dindigul DCA first division league on Saturday.

The scores: Vignesh SC 273 for seven in 42 overs (G. Karikalan 92, M. Abelur Rahim 43) bt Sri Vasantha Sweets CC 172 in 36.2 overs.
