Of ex-MLAs and ‘dummy’ candidates in Belgaum

Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: Some candidates who are being promoted by former MLAs have filed their nomination papers in Belgaum district.

In Hukkeri Assembly constituency, Vinay A. Patil of the Congress is the “dummy” candidate for his father A.B. Patil, a former Minister.

The former Minister and the State unit vice-president of the Janata Dal (Secular) Umesh V. Katti has filed nomination papers along with his younger brother Ramesh V. Katti in this Assembly constituency.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader and the former MLA Mahadevappa Yadawad, who is contesting for the second time from Ramdurg, has fielded his brother Mallesh Yadwad (BJP) as the “dummy” candidate. Congress leader and the former MLA S.C. Malgi, who has filed his nomination papers from Belgaum Rural Assembly constituency, has fielded his son Rajendra S. Malgi as the “dummy” candidate.

However, most of these “dummy” candidates are likely to withdraw their nomination papers.
