Nursing students hurt in accident

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: An 18-year-old bus cleaner was killed and 20 student nurses, most of them from Kerala, were injured when a college bus overturned on Uttarahalli-Kengeri Road on Saturday morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic–West) Pandurang Rane said the accident occurred when 30 students of the Indian Nursing Institute, near Uttarahalli, were on their way to Jayanagar General Hospital. The cleaner, Prakash, who was standing on the footboard of the bus, jumped out when the bus overturned. It fell on him, crushing him to death.

The students were rescued by the Kumaraswamy Layout traffic police. While the 20 injured students were given first aid at a local hospital, seven were taken to Manipal Hospital and BGS Hospital.
