HASSAN: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda, while addressing a series of meetings in Holenarsipur and Belur on Thursday, appealed to the people to teach the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda a lesson, holding him responsible for forcing premature elections on the State. The elections would cost the Government Rs. 1,000 crore, he said. For six months there was no democratically elected government in the State, as a result of which the administration had come to a standstill. Mr. Gowda said the BJP alone could offer stable government. It had administrative experience at the Centre and the State level. At the Centre, the Vajpayee Government had offered stable administration, while at the State level, B.S. Yeddyurappa had proved himself. He said the budget presented by Mr. Yeddyurappa was well received and had helped solve many of the farmers’ problems. Waiver of farm loans, abolition of arrack and the lottery system and enhancement in pension for the elderly and the disabled were some of the major achievements of the BJP, he said.Mr. Gowda charged the JD (S) with having connived with the Congress in not fielding their candidates in Shikaripur constituency in Shimoga district where Mr. Yeddyurappa is pitted against Samajwadi Party leader S. Bangarappa. He expressed confidence that Mr. Yeddyurappa would emerge victorious.
