Revanna’s development work is limited to Paduvalahippe, says Anupama’

S.G Anupama

HASSAN: “People want a change. They are welcoming me with “arathi” along my campaign route. Friday night’s incident where Janata Dal (S) workers’ attempted to attack me indicated that JD(S) candidate H.D. Revanna fears defeat in Holenarsipur,” Congress candidate S.G. Anupama said on Saturday.

Ms. Anupama is the daughter-in-law of the former minister G. Puttaswamy Gowda, political rival of the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda.

Ms. Anupama told The Hindu that on Friday evening when was campaigning at Marashettyhalli village, four persons surrounded her and raised slogans praising Mr. Revanna. Soon, 15 more surrounded her and attempted to manhandle her.

Ms. Anupama said that she lost her husband in 1998. Her father-in-law, who was a Minister and MP, died in 2005. Though she was from a family that had political background — her grandfather was an officer in the Mysore Palace, her uncle was an MLA, her father contested election in Mysore, — her husband and father-in-law did not want her to enter politics. After the death of my father-in-law, people of Holenarsipur wanted her to enter politics.

“I have entered politics now,” she said.

When her attention was drawn to the campaign by Bhavani on behalf of her husband, Mr. Revanna, she said: “I am fighting the election against Mr. Revanna and not against Ms. Bhavani.” Mr. Revanna’s development work was limited only to Paduvalahippe village. Works launched by her father-in-law when he was a Minister in the Veerendra Patil Government in 1989-94 had not been completed. “I will complete them if I am elected. I will convert Holenarsipur into a model constituency,” she said.
