Bhubaneswar: Unable to trace gangster Sandeep Acharya alias Raja, the key accused in the judo coach Biranchi Das murder case, a local court today declared him an absconder and issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest against him. The investigating officer of the murder case moved the sub-divisional judicial magistrate’s court which accepted police petition, declaring Raja as an absconder. Raja, who remained elusive even after nearly 50 raids by the police, has been on the run since the killing of child runner Budhia Singh’s trainer Biranchi Das on April 13. Stating that the police served the NBW to the gangster’s family, city Police Commissioner, Binay Behera said, “We may attach Raja’s property if he does not surrender within the next 10-15 days.” The police could also auction the gangster’s property if he did not surrender. Official sources said a two-member police team reached Mumbai to search for Raja, but did not meet with success. “The gangster could have escaped before the police team reached Mumbai,” a senior officer said. - PTI
