KOLAR: With hardly a week left for the district to go the polls, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer G. Ramachandra has been transferred on the charge of lethargic approach with regard to poll preparations. According to the directions of the Election Commission, the State Government has issued orders to this effect, sources confirmed. The Government has appointed J. Ravishankar as the new Deputy Commissioner. Acting upon a report submitted by its Deputy Election Commissioner R. Balakrishnan, the commission initiated action against Mr. Ramachandra. Mr. Balakrishnan, who held a review meeting here on Thursday, reportedly expressed displeasure over alleged negligence of Mr. Ramachandra with regard to poll preparations. The alleged failure of the district administration to keep electronic voting machines (EVMs) ready, in particular attracted the wrath of Mr. Balakrishnan. Ever since the election process was set in motion, Mr. Ramachandra has been in the thick of controversy due to his actions.
