‘State’s growth has come to a standstill’ CM must issue White Paper on Central funds Lucknow: The Congress in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday lashed out at the Mayawati Government for overlooking the welfare schemes meant for the poor and concentrating on construction of parks and wasting money on memorials. During its one year tenure, the Mayawati Government has done little for providing relief to the poor and needy while she had been spending crores of rupees on construction of parks and memorials, senior Congress leader, Jagdambika Pal alleged. Citing figures, he said that the State’s growth has come to a standstill and per capita income had also come down. Mr. Pal alleged that even though the State has not been able to spend Rs 400 crore provided to it for different welfare schemes by the Centre it had been levelling unfounded charges of lack of cooperation on the part of the Union Government. He demanded that the Chief Minister should either issue a White Paper on Central funds to clear the air or stop levelling charges against the centre. Mr. Pal said that the Congress would hold demonstrations at all the district headquarters in the State on May 9 seeking accountability from the Government. PTI
