Two cases of energy theft detected

CHENNAI: A case of energy theft by bypassing the meter was detected recently in a house at Kodungaiyur by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).
This was detected by officials of the Chennai North Enforcement Squad. According to a release, the estimated loss to Board was Rs.1.01 lakh. As the consumer came forward to compound the case in lieu of criminal proceedings and paid Rs.16,000, police complaint was not lodged.
In another case, the Chennai South Enforcement Squad recently found a low tension commercial service consumer in Parivakkam resorting to ‘direct tapping.’ The estimated loss to the Board was over Rs.1.04 lakh. The consumer came forward to compound the case in lieu of criminal proceedings and remitted Rs.12,000.
