Water release promised

CHENNAI: Public Works Department Minister Durai Murugan has assured farmers in the ayacut of the Amaravathi Main Canal he will take steps to get water released for sugar cane crop and coconut trees in their areas. In a release here on Saturday, the Minister said normally water was released from the canal from August 1 to January 31 every year. During his tour in Coimbatore district, farmers represented to him for a special release of water from the canal to save coconut trees and for the sugar cane harvest. This would be conveyed to the Chief Minister. — Special Correspondent
