New policy aims at ensuring industrial development in all districts: Minister

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The new industrial policy of the State government has been framed in such a manner that there is industrial development in all districts, Electricity Minister N.Veeraswami said here on Saturday.

Presiding over a seminar at the First World Tamil Economic Conference and Tamil Diaspora Meet, organised by the Madras Development Society, he said new industries were being set up in Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts, neighbouring Chennai. In future other districts would also get units. This would pave the way for all-round development of the State.

Further, information technology parks had been planned in cities in the State. In the wake of the new industrial policy, more job opportunities would be created in the next three years.

Mr. Veeraswami said no other State had progressed like Tamil Nadu in the last two years in fields including engineering, medicine and industries, particularly information technology.

He agreed there was a shortage of electricity due to shortfall in supply from windmills. This had been overcome and the electricity board had taken steps for uninterrupted supply.

Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan, who inaugurated the conference website, said people of the State should be prepared to face unexpected challenges in information technology in the coming years due to advancement of science.

The Vice-Chairman of the State Planning Commission, M. Naganathan, and the Chancellor of the Vellore Institute of Technology, G.Viswanathan, spoke.
