Hyderabad
Hyderabad: City’s primary water sources – Osmansagar and Himayatsagar – have almost gone dry. Only 15 days of water is left in the former while the position is much worse in the latter. At present, the HMWSSB is drawing a mere 9 to 10 mgd of water from Osmansagar as against the normal 25 mgd. Himayatsagar is yielding just 2 mgd and the authorities are drawing water from it sparingly. No cause for concernBoard is, however, optimistic and feels the water position is quite comfortable. “There is no cause for concern at all. We will maintain the present supply of 280 mgd till the monsoon sets in,” said Board’s Technical Director S.P. Sharma. The Krishna water phases I and II were contributing the major share of 160 mgd while the rest was coming from Singur (75 mgd) and Manjira (45 mgd). These supplies would continue through the summer and there would be no problem, Mr. Sharma said. He said there was no distribution problem anywhere. There was some pumping problem in parts of the old city, but it had been taken care of. Tanker supplies would continue wherever necessary. Nearly 20 per cent of the city consumers were now getting daily water supply. By August-end, this facility would be extended to the entire City, Mr. Sharma said.
