Panel to submit proposals to the Academic Council Move to grant re-employment to teachers discussed NEW DELHI: The Executive Council of Delhi University has decided to refer back the important issue of examination reforms – the main issue on the agenda at Friday’s meeting -- to the Academic Council. “When examination reforms were presented to the Academic Council, it was decided to constitute a standing committee to look into the problems and doubts in the implementation of these reforms. That committee is still in the process of working out all those details,” said Som Dutta Sharma, an Executive Council member on Saturday. “At Friday’s meeting, it was decided that the committee will submit its recommendations to the Academic Council and only then will it be discussed at the level of the Executive Council. The issue should not have been put on the agenda as it had never been cleared by the Academic Council in the first place,” he added. The recent move to grant re-employment to teachers from 65 years to 70 was also discussed. “All the elected members opposed this move. We have our concerns on this issue as this could be done in an arbitrary manner. So it was decided that the matter must be discussed in the Academic Council first,” said Rekha Dayal, another member. ‘Clause to be scrapped’The Executive Council also decided to scrap a new clause in a recent order from the administration stating that those who have secured less than 50 per cent in their graduation would not be eligible to apply for the posts of ad hoc lecturers in colleges. “It was an anomaly that has been corrected. The criteria for applying for the post of ad hoc teachers remains 55 per cent at the post-graduate level,” added Mr. Sharma.
