MADURAI: Hindi language must be propagated with the aid of regional languages by Central Government and public sector bank employees to reach the common people. Even multinational companies were using Hindi and regional languages for marketing in interior areas as they had realised its power to reach out to the rural masses, said P.V. Valsala Kutty, Joint Secretary, Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home affairs, on Wednesday. She was addressing a meeting of Town Official Language Implementation Committee convened here by the Central Bank of India. “Bank employees have to understand the capacity and capability of Hindi language to reach the people,” she said. Chairman of the committee and Assistant General Manager of Central Bank of India, R. Sivasubramanian, emphasised the need for learning Hindi. Member-Secretary, Hitendra Dhumal, presented a report on the activities of the committee. Commissioner of Income Tax Indra Kumar and Divisional Railway Manager Hemant Kumar also spoke. Awards were given for the best implementation of the official language. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) and Power Grid Corporation of India bagged the first prize in their respective category. Around 90 officials from Central Government departments, public sector undertakings, nationalised banks and financial institutions participated in the meeting, according to a press release.
