Majestic Magnificence: Devotees pulling Sri Thyagarajaswamy’s temple car in Tiruvarur on Sunday.

Tiruvarur: The car festival of Sri Thyagarajaswamy Temple was held at Tiruvarur on Sunday. Thousands of people pulled the car after pujas were performed at 6.45 a.m.

Those who joined with the people and pulled the car include K.R. Periya Karuppan, HR and CE Minister, U. Mathivanan, Dairy Development Minister, T. Pichandi, Commissioner, HR and CE, M. Chandrasekaran, Tiruvarur Collector and Tenkasi S. Jawahar, Nagapattinam Collector, A.K.S.Vijayan, MP and others.

Chanting of ‘Arohara’ ‘Thyagesa’ rent the air as the devotees pulled the car with accompaniment of Nadaswaram and other musical instruments.

The tastefully decorated giant size car weighing 300 tonnes moved majestically on the east street and entered south street.

It was a beautiful sight to see the car moving on the banks of Kamalalayam Tank with the temple as its backdrop.

Popularly called ‘Azhither,’ one of the biggest cars in the State is fitted with iron wheels and operates on hydraulic brake systems designed by Bharath Heavy Electricals Ltd, Tiruchi. Police have made elaborate bandobust arrangements and transport corporations operated additional buses to Tiruvarur to facilitate people to witness the car festival.
