Regularisation of workers: federation plans protests

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry State Government Employees’ Central Federation will launch a series of protests from May 6 to highlight demands such as regularisation of daily wage, part-time, voucher payment workers and employees under the bread and milk scheme.

The federation in a release said that around 5,000 people had been recruited on daily wage, part-time, voucher payment and contract basis.

A rally to demand the regularisation of their service was held on April 9.

The Madras High Court had given orders permitting extension of service for the workers on April 30 and said the government had the powers to regularise the workers, the federation said.

The federation would launch its campaign to urge the government to implement the court verdict.
