64 ruling JD (U), BJP activists resign

Gaya: Giving into the diktat of Maoists, 64 ruling JD (U) and BJP activists, in Bihar’s Islampur Assembly constituency announced on Sunday they would resign from primary membership of their parties.

Charging the Speaker U. N. Chaudhary, who represents Islamapur, with “ignoring and neglecting” his constituency in Gaya district, the Maoists alleged development work had come to a grinding halt and police atrocities on the poor and women were on the rise.

CPI (Maoist) ultras had kidnapped 37 NDA men from Imamganj, Banke Bazaar and Dumaria blocks in the district on Tuesday, official sources said.

The naxalites had taken them to Chakrabanda hill in the forests and threatened them with dire consequences if they failed to resign publicly in the presence of mediamen from the primary memberships of their parties by Sunday, the sources said, adding they freed them after the NDA men agreed to abide by the diktats.

Accordingly, 64 activists of the ruling parties in Bihar assembled at the school today and announced their resignation. PTI
