Patna: Congress MLA Sunita Devi, whose former bodyguard levelled charges of sexual harassment against her, on Sunday resigned as the state Mahila Congress chief on “moral grounds”. “I have resigned as the Bihar Mahila Congress chief in the wake of the controversy,” Sunita Devi, MLA from Korha in Katihar district, told PTI. The MLA said she had sent her resignation to the President of the AICC (Women Cell). Meanwhile, a two-member inquiry team constituted by the AICC would reach here tomorrow to inquire into the allegations. Bal Yogeshwar Sharma, a constable and a former bodyguard of Sunita Devi who had levelled sexual harassment charges against her, was placed under suspension yesterday, official sources said. Sharma is currently posted in the Vigilance Department of the State Electricity Board at Ara. Taking a serious view of the allegations, State Congress president Sadanand Singh had also constituted a three-member committee to hold an impartial inquiry. PTI
