Cost of materials: builders’ association seeks Centre’s intervention

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of Builders’ Association of India has sought the intervention of the Central government to reduce the inflating costs of construction materials.

The association in a release said that the payment for works completed last year had not been done till date.

It demanded provision of revised estimates for the works in view of the increasing costs of construction materials.

On completion of the works, the final bill was sent to the Directorate of Accounts and Treasuries.

However, it was sent back citing various reasons, the association said, demanding the establishment of an audit wing in the Public Works Department (PWD).

It requested the Chief Minister to look into their demands immediately and allot additional funds for the PWD to settle their dues.
