A devotee died of heart attack in Vaikuntam Queue complex on Tirumala recently. Such incidents were reported earlier too. It is pitiable to see infirm and the aged waiting in queue complex without any basic amenities. The devotees stand in the queue for longer hours for darshan. The minimum responsibility of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams is to provide medical aid, keep a doctor ready to attend to the emergency cases. The TTD should also appoint volunteers to assist the devotees and provide drinking water to the needy and the thirsty. Sujatha Kakaturu Kavali EC should observe restraintPraveen Prakash was transferred out of Ranga Reddy district, where byelections are due on May 29, at the behest of the Election Commission of India. He is being subjected to frequent transfers, as he is a strict and sincere officer. It is understood that Praveen Prakash’s altercation in the past with an official of the Election Commission has led to his transfer. Though the Election Commission of India is an autonomous body vested with most superior powers, it is expected to observe restraint. This incident certainly leaves a big blot on the IAS officers, and certainly warrants a protest from the cadre. I Subash Samuel Ulavapadu Abuse of powerFormer DGP Swaranjit Sen lost his precious Omega watch in one of the washrooms of a hotel in Hyderabad. Apparently it is his mistake, as he is believed to have removed his watch and kept it on the wash basin. As the hotel staff are feigning ignorance, the police are making attempts to conduct polygraph test on six suspects. It is for sure that the police would have not taken such cases seriously, if a common man had lost his watch. Sometime ago, the police misused the manpower to search for a pet dog of a police officer. Definitely, it is abuse of power to please their former boss or impress their present bosses. R. Janaki Rama Rao Kodad A picture of neglectThe 250-bedded Khammam area hospital located in Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Vanama Venkateswara Rao’s home turf and adjudged the second best in the State only last year, is now a picture of neglect. Insanitation and crass negligence towards patients has become the order of the day. The hospital is catering to the needs of close to 300 in-patients and up to 1,400 out-patients every day. The patients are facing hardship due to inadequate staff and facilities and poor treatment. The Minister should do justice at least to his native place. D. Anjani Khammam Litmus testIt has been a step forward and two steps backward for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. The TRS is struggling to keep the sentiment and the movement alive. TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao whipped up the passions and sentiment, which was undercurrent for last few decades. But, he has failed to keep the movement alive as he is more interested in his personal development rather than the cause of Telangana State. The by-elections are really a litmus test to him, as he has to prove that Telangana sentiment exists. O. Jayanthi Bhadrachalam
