Single-window system only for merit seats

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The managements of aided higher secondary educational institutions will have the right to decide on admissions in 40 per cent of the seats allocated for religious minorities and backward sections, P.M. Rajeev, Joint Director, Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, has said in a press release.

Management can decide

The managements will also be able to decide admission in 30 per cent of the seats allocated for other backward sections. Admissions through the single-window system will be limited to merit seats. Five per cent of the merit seats has been reserved for sportspersons, while three per cent has been set apart for candidates with disabilities. Admissions of sportspersons will not be through the single-window system.

He has said that the single-window system was introduced last year (2007-08) to usher in transparency and effectiveness in admissions at the Plus One level.

Earlier, a candidate seeking admission for a Plus One course had to apply at various educational institutions. But under the new system, a candidate can explore his options in all the government and aided schools in the district by filling up a single application form.

The applicant can then submit the completed application form at any school of his or her choice.

Helpdesks

Candidates can also seek the assistance of helpdesks functioning at various schools while filling the forms.

Changes can be made in the submitted application form, if necessary, once it has been posted on the web site after data entry has been completed by the respective school. Modifications can be made by contacting the Principal of the school in which the candidate has submitted the form.
