Birth anniversary of Jalagam celebrated

KHAMMAM: Poor feeding, offering of floral tributes to portraits and distribution of sweets and clothes marked the 87th birth anniversary celebrations of the former Chief Minister, Jalagam Vengala Rao in the district on Sunday.

The main function was held at the Jalagham Vengala Rao Park in Sathupalli. Hundreds of Congress workers and loyalists of the Jalagam family took part in the celebrations.

The Penugonda MLA, P. Satyanarayan, who was the chief guest of the function, garlanded the statue of the former Chief Minister. Speaking on the occasion, he said that tenure of Jalagam Vengala Rao witnessed the development of key sectors in the state. Calling him the architect of Khammam district, he said the development of the region owed very much to his time. Representatives of the local bodies also joined the celebrations.

Jalagam Venkata Rao, son of the former chief Minister and Sathupalli MLA inaugurated an open air theatre constructed at the Jalagam Vengala Rao Park in Sathupalli at a cost of Rs 7 lakhs. Telugu movie, Sriramadasu was screened in the theatre in the day.
