Project oustees to intensify stir
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: The CPI(M) district committee that has been demanding relief and rehabilitation package to families displaced by Thotapalli and Peddagedda projects has decided to intensify stir in phases. As a part of the programme, the oustees would stage dharna at Revenue Divisional Office in Parvathipuram on Monday and at Collector’s Office and at Parvathipuram RDO’s office on May 9, said the party secretary M. Krishna Murty.
At a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Krishna Murty said that contractors had already suspended execution of river gap work following stir launched by oustees on Friday. The families had been demanding that the assured relief package be settled. It may be recalled that they had called off similar agitation on February 1 and fixed May 1 as the last date for settlement of their problems. As the government had failed to address their problem they once again under the aegis of the CPI (M) launched the stir.
If the river gap were to be closed not an acre of land would get water, as execution of canals had not begun so far, Mr. Krishna Murty said. He also demanded that the government construct a bridge at Erra Samanthavalasa before executing Adarigedda mini reservoir project.
