Letters to the Editor
The Pakistan government’s decision to postpone the execution of Sarabjit Singh indefinitely is welcome. His close relatives’ meeting Pakistani government officials and the letters for clemency sent by Indian leaders cutting across political affiliations might have moved Islamabad to put the decision on hold. Till the request for pardon of Sarabjit is heeded, India needs to pursue the matter without any letup. H.P.Murali Bangalore The government’s diplomatic initiatives have paid dividends. Thanks also go to Ansar Burney, one of Pakistan’s leading human rights activist and a former Minister for Human Rights, who is championing the cause of Sarabjit and others languishing in Pakistani jails. He had categorically asserted that the hanging of Sarabjit would be a “murder of humanity.” Hope the Pakistan government spares the others who too are on a long and traumatic stint in Pakistani jail. It will then be a milestone in creating a congenial atmosphere to settle the core issues between the neighbours. R. Sampath Chennai
