Bangalore: Virdhawal Khade ended the Malaysian Open swimming championship on a high by winning the 50m freestyle clocking 23.03s with a new meet record. His time is faster than the Olympic qualifying time of 23.13s. Meanwhile Shikha Tandon won a silver in the 50m freestyle, clocking 26.37sec, which is a new National record. The earlier National record was also held by Shikha at 26.50s set in 2003. She narrowly missed the Olympic qualifying time of 26.32s. In the 200m backstroke, Rehan Poncha won with a timing of 2:09.38s and Rohit Havaldar finished third at 2:10.29s. The Olympic qualifying time in this event is 2:03.91s. Rehan Poncha also won a silver in the 100m butterfly with a timing of 56.61s. The Olympic qualifying time in this event is 54.71sec.
