HYDERABAD: AGORC won the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy Challenge Cup prize money football tournament with a 7-6 win, via sudden death, over EME Centre in the final at Trimulgherry Village Grounds. The teams were locked goalless at the end of regulation time and even the tie-breaker failed to break the deadlock as the teams were 3-3. The winner was richer by Rs. 1 lakh and the runner-up Rs. 50,000. P. Rajendran, president of Ranga Reddy District Football Association, which organised the event, presented a purse of Rs. 5,000 each to five veteran players — Papaiah Sastry, P. Satyanarayana, Bhaskaran, Edward Dias and Loganathan. P. Gowrishankar and Rajendran gave away the prizes. AC Guards wins againAC Guards recorded its second straight win when it defeated Secunderabad Sporting Club 5-1 in the A-2 division hockey league championship at Begumpet Police Stadium here. The winner led 3-0 at the break. Ali (2), Sohail (2) and Waheed (1) were the scorers for the winner, while Nagaraj reduced the margin for Secunderabad Sporting Club. In another match, Deccan Blues and Royal Club were locked in a 1-1 draw with Sharath Reddy scoring for the former and Arun for the latter. In the B-division league at AOC Grounds, Rising Stars defeated Deccan Stars 2-1 with Om Prakash and Kailash Joshi scoring. Zubeer reduced the margin for Deccan Stars. Inter-district carromThe 37th senior inter-district carrom championship, organised by Jyotika-RC (NTPC Recreation Club) under the auspices of Hyderabad Carrom Association and Karimnagar District Carrom Association, will be held at NTPC Township (Ramagundam) from May 14 to 18. Entries close by May 12 and should be sent to M. Narsaiah, general secretary, Jyotika-RC, Ramagundam, or to S. Madanraj, General Secretary, HYCA, at the MCH swimming pool, Secunderabad.
