Sir, I feel the high volume of traffic is due increase in the number of cars. I suggest imposition of extra tax on cars that are being driven singly because they occupy lots of space and move slowly. Crossing the line (bikes or cars) in the centre of the road especially while overtaking should be made a punishable act. P. Pavan Chakravarthy Khairatabad. Dear Mr. Pavan, As regards taxes, Government has to take a decision. Car pool system needs to be popularised – we will take it up. We are taking up lane driving in a big way. ***** Sir, I have observed the traffic police are lifting the parked vehicles in non-parking zones but they are not bothered about fruit, flower and vegetable sellers, occupying the road side. P.S. Ramachandran Ramanthapur Dear Mr. Ramachandran We are in touch with the GHMC to sort out encroachment problems. Police seizes the wares of those hawkers who block the road or footpaths. We will work on your suggestions. ***** Sir, We should try to inculcate the art of defensive driving which will save lives, time and money. It also would promote an attitude of mutual understanding, courtesy and cooperation on the road and also prevent traffic snarls. Efforts need to be put in this direction by involving corporate companies and the NGOs. Wing Commander (retired) R. Govinda Rajan Trimulgherry Dear Mr. Rajan, We’re doing this by observing Traffic Rule Violation Free day on the first day of every month. More and more companies, NGOs and civilians are joining this programme and thus contributing to increase traffic rule awareness. ***** Sir, Let the traffic policemen visit countries abroad for first hand experience. Right person for the right job makes a lot of difference. Let the traffic policemen be given good salaries and perks, compulsory participation in social events. A major grievance is that our policemen are overburdened with responsibilities like providing security to the VIPs and other such activities. Daniel Silvanus Dear Mr. Daniel, I agree, traffic policemen could benefit a lot if they could be exposed to the systems abroad. We are trying to address the problem of shortage of manpower by deploying more Home Guards. GHMC is doing junction improvement and lane marking. You could share your ideas on traffic improvement and rooting out corruption at our Traffic Training Institute. We could invite you over, if you have time. ***** Sir, I was shocked to see a scooter rider while entering a one-way road violating a rule has pushed the police constable who stopped him. The incident may be common in all cities but police should deal strictly with the traffic rule violators. Raman Madhuranagar Dear Mr. Raman, Thanks for understanding the plight of the traffic constable. We deal firmly with those who assault cops on duty. We are building up database of violators at the police station level, besides sending e-Challans for vehicle drivers for violating traffic rules. We are working out modalities for transfer of data for checking the antecedents before issue / renewal of licence. More and more law breakers are being produced before the courts. ***** Sir, There is a lot of traffic jam right from Khairatabad to KPHB, especially in the evening hours. It is pathetic to see that at some places even traffic constables are not posted. K.L. Narayana Dear Mr. Narayana, We are trying to improve things on Khairatabad – SR Nagar Road. Additional officers and men have been detailed on the Mythrivanam – SR Nagar stretch. We will review the situation and tighten up things further. ***** Sir, The main reason for traffic snarls near junctions is haphazardly parked three-wheelers along the turns. Not only do they park and wait for customers but they tend to stop rather abruptly. There should be a "no stopping zone" for at least 50 meters from all intersections. Ravi Shankar Patancheru. Dear Mr. Ravi Shankar, You are right, parking within 50 meters of the intersections and abrupt / haphazard stopping of vehicles obstruct traffic. That is why, we have undertaken joint inspection with RTC so that even bus stops can be located at a convenient distance from the turnings. We do book vehicles parked in the middle of the road or at turnings. ***** Sir, Why a divider cannot be laid from Charminar to Falaknuma. There can be a ‘U’ turn near Ayodhya junction for traffic coming from Masab Tank. Abdul Muqtadeer Khaja Hyderabad. Dear Mr. Khaja, Your idea to have a divider from Charminar to Falaknuma is good and should help us in tackling the chaotic traffic and encroachments more effectively. The width of road at Ayodhya is not much and if a U-turn is given there, it will slow down the traffic from Lakdikapul. However, for the traffic going towards Masab Tank we have written to the GHMC to open a vent opposite JNTU so that people could take a U-turn towards Mahavir Hospital .
