KOCHI: Two persons detained at the Nedumbassery airport on Saturday allegedly with counterfeit currency for Rs. 20 lakh were produced at the residence of the First Class Judicial Magistrate on Sunday. They were remanded in the Aluva sub-jail for 14 days. The accused, Sajudeen of Kasaragod and Kamarudeen of Pavaratty, Thrissur, were detained on Saturday by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. The fake currency, suspected to have been flown from Sharjah, was seized from the baggage of Sajudeen, the directorate said. Enforcement agencies say they are investigating the links of the accused with fake-currency rackets in West Asia and other instances of their smuggling into India, directly or through carriers. Sajudeen was reportedly paid Rs. 25,000 and air fare for each trip to Kerala with the currency. The two are suspected to have distributed many fake-currency bundles in Chavakkad in Thrissur and places in northern Kerala.
