The mobile phone network of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is very much disappointing. Particularly, in the evening hours after 7 p.m., it is becoming a Herculean task for BSNL mobile phone users to make a call even to the subscribers of the same network. Using the SMS service of BSNL is another major challenge, as the messages do not reach in time on many occasions. The same is the case with outgoing messages, which is forcing many subscribers to switch over to other networks. It is high time the BSNL authorities should initiate appropriate steps to improve the connectivity. L.V.S. Kameswara Rao Poranki Hike concession on milk cardsThe authorities of the Vijaya Dairy have introduced a marginal concession for senior citizens, who purchase monthly milk cards. For those who buy one litre of milk a day, the concession was initially Rs. 30 a month. This was later reduced to Rs. 20 a month. The concession has further been reduced to Rs. 14 a month. When a customer is able to purchase a card by paying Rs. 700 to Rs. 800 at a time, the meagre concession being offered by the dairy is of no sense. If the officials are not able to increase the concession, it is better scrapping it totally. Even if they scrap the concession, it will not have any impact on the sales. A. Pattabhi Ajith Singh Nagar Repair road bridgeThe road bridge on Jeelagalagandi drainage in Machilipatnam was partially damaged long back. The authorities of the Roads and Buildings Department constructed a partition wall on the bridge without undertaking any repairs. Due to the construction of the partition wall, the width of the bridge got reduced, forcing the drivers of the APSRTC buses and other heavy vehicles to take utmost care while crossing the bridge. If the officials do not take up necessary repairs to the bridge, the seriousness of the problem will become manifold in the near future. I request the officials of the Roads and Buildings Department to take necessary steps to commence the works. B.R.K. Rao Machilipatnam Strengthen drug approval systemAs thousands of medicines are being manufactured by numerous pharmaceutical industries, it is high time a comprehensive expert committee is constituted to strengthen the country’s drug approval system, which is apparently a perfunctory body. There is need to exercise caution as the information being provided by the drug manufacturers might be misleading at times. It is more important since most of the drugs are introduced and aggressively promoted in the market. In this context, experts could make sure that a particular drug is tested and made more easily available. H. Kalyan Rao Chandramouli Nagar, Guntur
