BSNL union to stage dharna

KOCHI: The BSNL Employees Union will stage a dharna in front of the Boat Jetty telephone exchange on Monday to press the Central Government to bridle inflation and revitalise the public distribution system (PDS).

A statement from the union said that PDS got weakened because of the gradual reduction of subsidies. The Food Corporation of India got marginalised in the country’s food security as private monopolies were allowed to procure food grains from farmers. It pointed out that Kerala, being a food-deficit State, could not survive without the Centre’s subsidised food grain allotment.
