VISAKAHAPATNAM: In a first-of-its-kind HR initiative, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) will impart technical and soft skills training to its employees. A HR consultant is already in place, who has created the training programme. By the month-end, the training sessions will begin. As per the preliminary study and the feedback from the employees, training areas had been acknowledged, said GVMC Commissioner M.K. Meena. He said all the permanent employees would go through the training. Beginning with the corporators, the instructional exercises would be conducted two days in a week. “The training of the corporators is very crucial as public expects a lot out of them. Instructional design for them has been made with special focus on citizen-responsible management skills and counselling procedures. We plan to hone their presentation skills too. Separate classes for corporators for development and planning of the city will also be held,” GVMC HRD Consultant A. Rajendra Krishna said. As part of outsourced training, some Andhra University professors will be taking the sessions. The 165 officers, 389 supervisors, 284 assistants and 2,574 Class 1V employees will be provided training. Apart from the technical skills integral to employee efficiency, stress management, work-life balance, ethics and values, would form part of the training.
