Fruitfully occupied: A training session in progress at the district prison in Bidar on Monday. BIDAR: Twenty women inmates at the district prison here will no longer feel bored, as the authorities, in association with the Carmel Vocational Training Institute, have decided to train them in tailoring and embroidery. The six-month-long training programme was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta on the prison premises on Monday. Superintendent of Police A. Subramanyeswara Rao and Prison Superintendent S.M. Patil were present. The training session would aim at creating a better atmosphere for the inmates and also relieving them of mental stress by involving them in some activity, Mr. Patil said. “It is also an effort to make them learn tailoring, so that they can support their families after their release. The training will also help make the inmates achieve a sense of self-reliance. An expert from the Carmel Institute will instruct them. Training sessions will be held on a regular basis between 9.30 a.m. and 4 p.m.,” he said. Already, the inmates have been given a month’s training in the use of spindle machines, in association with Khadi Gramudyog, Bidar, he added. Representatives from Carmel Vocational Training Institute were present on the occasion.
